July Favorites

11:57 AM

Hello lovelies! A new month means a new monthly favorites! (Even though this is a bit late…as usual). July was my last month in LA before I had to come home so there’s going to be a lot of LA-based things! Let me know what things you loved, want to try, or what kinds of posts you want to see on my blog!

To Watch

The Fundamentals of Caring– This is a new favorite! I thought it was going to be a lot like Me Before You because it focused on a caregiving and a young boy, but it had an entirely different plot. Paul Rudd plays Ben, a writer who becomes a caregiver for Trevor (Craig Roberts) who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The two become unlikely friends and go on an epic road trip and meet unlikely characters (including Selena Gomez). It’s cute, funny, and heart breaking.

Cutthroat Kitchen– I love cooking shows and this one is my new favorite. It’s similar to Chopped but the chefs are each given $25,00 to bid on awful auction items that they can give to their competitors. It’s strangely addicting for anyone who likes to cook.

New Girl – I re-watched the show because there’s nothing as quirky and charming as New Girl. All the characters are relatable and funny. It’s a must see if you like quirky comedies or Zooey Deschanel.

To Read

Who What Wear – I love catching up on all the fashion-related articles on the website. They have a lot of interviews with professionals in the fashion industry as well as current trends, cheap finds, and street style.

Local Wolves – Want to learn about upcoming creatives and get inspired? Look no further and read this amazing indie magazine. You can read the current and past issues for free here.

Music

Father John Misty – “I’m Writing a Novel” has become my go-to driving song. It’s so catchy and quirky.

LANY– Everyone’s been talking about LANY and I’ve kind of ignored it for some reason. I was finally in my right mind, played a few songs, and fell in love. My favorites? “ILYSM,” “Pink Skies,” and “Bad, Bad Bad.”

The Mowgli’s– These guys are so uplifting and are a great start to a productive morning.

Electric Light Orchestra– My friend introduced me to them and I instantly felt a connection to “Strange Magic.” You’ve probably (hopefully) heard of “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Evil Woman.”

Open Season by High Highs – This is great for hanging out at a friend’s house with candles lit and pictures for collaging spread out everywhere. It’s relaxing and has a great beat.

Spotify - I finally got Spotify premium and it's worth it. You can skip as many songs as you want, listen to playlists offline and there's no ads. If you're a student it's only $4.99 plus tax a month. Want to listen to my playlists? Follow me at cgedwards28!

To Wear

Bandanas – I love looking like a Boy Scout by tying a bandana around my neck and pairing it with a denim jacket. It makes everyday feel a bit like summer camp.

Flair – I’m talking pins and patches! Dress up an old jacket and make it feel brand new by adding some fun flair to it. Go thrifting for old patches or Disney pins and dress up your clothes.

Oversized Denim Jackets – It completes every outfit. Dress up or down your look with a simple jacket and you’re good to go.

Highlighters – Make your cheekbones pop with a sparkly highlighter! I love Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Glow Palette. Use a fan or contour brush and pop it onto your cheekbone! If you don’t want to spend money on a highlighter, you can use a nude, sparkly eyeshadow.

Bronzer – I’m pretty pale, so I like to bronze and contour my face to make it look like I’ve been outside at the beach.

To Eat

Blended Green Tea Boba – Urth Caffe has my heart again. I just tried this drink and it was what boba dreams are made of.

Zoodles - Zucchini noodles are amazing. I don't even miss pasta when I eat zoodles. I just add some homemade meatballs, put some pasta sauce on, and top it off with parmesan cheese. If you don't have a noodle maker, you can just peel the zucchini!

Tacos - Mix some ground beef with taco seasoning, heat up some corn tortillas, and add some corn, black beans, and salsa for great homemade tacos.

Yogurtland – I think I went three times a week. It’s so good and convenient! I wish I had some right now.

To Go

Dodger’s Game – My university gave me a free ticket so I went all-American at the game. I didn’t watch a lot of the game, but I was so busy eating my iced lemonade and pretzel, could you really blame me?

Silver Lake – I hit the town and explored LA’s hippest neighborhood. There was cool street art, thrift stores, and expensive coffee. Need I say more?

Venice Canals – Thought all Venice had was a beach? There’s hidden canals (hence why it’s named Venice) in a neighborhood right off of the main strip. It really feels like you’re in Italy.

The Arts District – I just found this gem when I went looking for the New Girl apartment. It’s right by Little Tokyo in DTLA and has cute shops, street arts, and Pie Hole!

Ban.do’s Poolside Party – I got to work Ban.do’s party at the Line Hotel in K-Town. It was filled with fun floaties, a pop-up shop, red carpet, and the coolest creatives around.
